East Dorset Cycle Routes Description

These guides have been put together to offer you the chance to explore, on bike, some of the best countryside in East Dorset.

The routes maximize traffic free options by using bridleways as well as quiet lanes. These rides are only suitable for mountain or hybrid bikes.

The majority of the bridleways used offer a good surface all year round, however, a few short sections on the harder rides do get muddy, and this is highlighted on the maps. Each route shows the ratio of on/off road sections and are graded so you can pick up the level to suit you on the day.

They range from flat off road rides for the family to more challenging, hilly ones. The maps have also been designed so that you can shorten any of the routes or explore different bridleways and lanes. Places of significant interest and refreshment stops are also highlighted. Some of these may not be directly on the route but the map shows you how to reach them. Free parking is available at each of the starting points.

If you use GPS systems, co-ordinates are given throughout each of the rides.

  1. Route - Castleman Trailway (easy, 10miles)
  2. Route - Badbury Rings (easy, 13miles/4.5miles)
  3. Route - Witchampton (moderate, 13miles/6miles)
  4. Route - Horton Tower Circular (moderate, 10miles)
  5. Route - Sixpenny Handley (hard, 14miles)
  6. Route - Cranborne Chaser (hard, 12.2miles)
